Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic as well as a public speaker, and Canadian. She founded Feminist Frequency which includes videos and comments on depictions of women's roles in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that examines female representations in popular culture narratives. In addition, she works to expose the issues surrounding the harassment and targeted attack on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is dedicated to breaking down stereotypes that are prevalent in popular culture. Sarkeesian, who holds the degree of Master's in Political and Social Thought from York University, is a sought after public speakers. She has spoken at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. At a young age she was intrigued by issues of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. When she was still in school, in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. Someone who hoped to launch a web-series that would examine the representation of gender in video games was targeted by the internet campaign. It was not enough to stop her.
